For years, Ray Walston tried to shed the image of Martin the Martian that he had obtained in his most popular series My Favorite Martian. On September 9, 1977, the day finally came to embark on my educational journey as I trudged off to my first day of kindergarten class. You might recall that since my birthday was October 2, I had just missed the September 30 deadline to enroll in school the previous year. When my Mom went to have me tested to get me in early, I cried when she left me there. This was something that I had never done before and would never do again. 1974 came upon us, just as expected, and my family kicked off the New Year, our first one in our Beavercreek home on Echo Hill Lane. Life continued as normal after the Christmas tree came down and the toys were put away into my relatively new room. Mom was still working full-time with Connelly and Company, which means that I was still going to my Grandma Murphy’s house during the day…at least for the first month or two of the year.
