Third Grade Ends

third3My third grade year from 1980-81 had seen a lot of memorable events, so I was sad to see it end that June. I had had two teachers in Mrs. Corn and Mrs. Rhea and had gotten a taste of ‘switching’ classes going to Mrs. McCoy for math. Mrs. McCoy was the quintessential teacher-type – tall, gray hair, and glasses (reminding me a bit of my Grandma Range). She had a great setup of kids’ books in her room, lining the perimeter of two walls. I was so inspired by this that I attempted to create a ‘reading center’ in my own room to not much avail. Going Ape Over Booth Colman

booth2Booth Colman doesn’t really have an instantly recognizable face. And that may be because his most famous role was that of Dr. Zaius in full ape regalia in Planet of the Apes. But Mr. Colman has had a rather lucrative career as a character actor in a slew of over 150 film and TV appearances. Most recently he has twice appeared as a judge in two of the Coen Brothers’ The Man Who Wasn’t There and Intolerable Cruelty. Read the rest of this entry »

Gliding Along in Early 1992

92kThe good news is that in this posting we can finally put to bed the story about ABR and the supposed job that my new friend Keith was offering me. The bad news is that it if you don’t already know the story, you might be left still wanting more. For this may have been the end of ABR, but it was not the end of Keith. Meeting Dick Van Patten Was Enough…

dvp2…to fill my day with love. Sometimes when I’ve left things to chance during my California visits, they don’t always work out as hope for. For instance, we when thought that Ray Bradbury would be present at one of his plays, or more importantly when I though that meeting David Garrison after his performance of Wicked would be a no-brainer, I was left disappointed.
