The 1990 Clearwater Sons Convention

Sunday, April 15th, 2007

clee.jpgThe 1990 Sons of the Desert Convention was held in fiery Clearwater, Florida in the dead center of the summer – Thursday, July 12 thru Sunday, July 15. When this convention rolled around, I had kind of drifted from the L&H ‘scene,’ having not attended any meetings of our local Springfield tent lately – mainly because Carl hadn’t had any. Neither had I produced any more newsletters from this tent and I hadn’t yet started my own tent. I had even begun to lose touch with my friend Bob Satterfield. Read the rest of this entry »

Patsy Britten – 2000

Saturday, April 14th, 2007

patbell.jpgOne of the five Our Gang members who were in attendence at the 2000 Sea-Tac Sons of the Desert convention was Patsy Britten – now Pat Bell. Patsy was a recent discovery of convention host Jack Taylor and she actually lived right in the Seattle area. This was her first and only convention appearance. Patsy only appeared briefly in three Our Gang comedies but she did have a speaking role in Readin’ and Writin’ (1930). When asked by Miss Crabtree to answer the question “What is an escalator?,” Patsy responds, “It’s a great big thing that lives in the swamps. They make suitcases out of them.” Read the rest of this entry »

Tuesday Afternoon in Myrtle Beach

I slept in as long as I could. Of course, it wasn’t long each morning before I was greeted with little Adam’s smiling face. On this day, I decided to get out a little bit, so I joined both My Gang and the Eds on a journey to the local outlet mall. I immediately decided that I could not handle the clothes shopping of my female counterparts, so I ventured out on my own and spent the morning hours mostly in the bookstore. I ended up purchasing a great Ronald Reagan tome, which was actually a souvenir of the Ronald Reagan Library that I visited in 2005. Read the rest of this entry »

Sunday Afternoon in Las Vegas

Thursday, April 12th, 2007

phan4.jpgBob and I had an afternoon of fun and frolics on Sunday, February 11, 2007 during our stay in the beautiful town of Las Vegas, Nevada. Early in the day we had visited Our Gang member Jack Hanlon, (which you may read about here) but before we showed up at his place, we swung by the Palm Valley View Memorial Park to see the gravesite of Redd Foxx of “Sanford and Son” fame. I naturally took the opportunity to pose for the completely inappropriate photo seen below. Read the rest of this entry »

Ira and Mildred’s House 1980

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

im805.jpgI previously wrote about my first visit with Ira and Mildred Cline in the posting found here. That was my first visit, and this one from 1980 – if I am calculating correctly – was my third. This excursion was taken during our June trip to Siesta Key. Darlene, who was on this vacation with us, was beginning to feel the pangs of homesickness, so decided to stay back at our condo for some alone-time. Here are a few photos from our day with Ira and Mildred. Read the rest of this entry »
