Concluding my diary from 1980:
March 16 – After Sunday School Lee came down. We had a big fight at Steveie’s house. (He was goin to eat with us but I told him “no”) Mom and I bet 25 cents I will not play with him (I’ll probly win and I won’t play with him)
As a young chap of three or four, I often carried with me a large black suitcase to many of my destinations. To my Grandma and Grandpa’s house, for instance. I went over there to be babysat a lot and trailing behind me was always the black suitcase. Of significant importance in defining the early part of 1995 is the role that my editorship of Dante’s Info played in my life at this time. Lisa and I hadn’t been together too long before she was thrust into my other life with the Sons of the Desert, through forced attendance at our meetings and my constant involvement with creating our tent’s newsletter Dante’s Info.
On February 2, 1990, Christi’s brother Keith and I travelled from their home in Beavercreek to Fairborn to meet two guys from the heavy metal band Whitesnake. These members were Adrian Vandenberg and Rudy Sarzo and they were making an appearance at the music store Absolute Music (not a record store, but a store that sells musical instruments) in support of their 1989 album Slip of the Tongue. Amidst our tour of Savannah during our pre-trip with the Sons of the Desert, Ashleigh and I encountered Chippewa Square, which is the exact site where they filmed the famous opening and subsequent scenes of Forrest Gump on the parkbench. In reality, the park bench was merely a prop set in front of the cement wall visible in the photo at right. The statue in the background can also be seen in the photo below.
