I was very saddened when our cat Charcoal passed away during the Fall of 1977. In an effort to help me recover, my parents decided to get me a brand new kitten – another gray one – for Christmas that year. In my long illustrious life, I have met a few folks who I consider to be true television icons, but perhaps none have been as iconic as Larry Hagman. His film career was grossly limited, with the high points being a small role in the John Wayne film In Harm’s Way, a cameo in Superman, and supporting roles in Harry and Tonto, S.O.B., Nixon, and Primary Colors. In the early Summer of 1974, my Mom and Dad took me on what was probably a weekend getaway to the National Recreation Area known as the Land Between the Lakes – the lakes in question being Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley. This area extends across two states, from Kentucky into Tennessee. We would have undoubtedly stayed on the Kentucky side. Unfortunately, neither Mom or Dad have a great deal of recollection of this early vacation, so all information must be inferred from the nice batch of photos below.
