Friday, February 23rd, 2007I warned you that subsequent postings from 1972 would include an inordinant number of photos of me. My Dad had just gotten his Yashica TL Electro-X camera in early 1972 and was itching to create some serious picture snappage. Naturally, I, being just less than six months old, had to have been quite a novelty to the new proud father, so there were tons and tons of beautiful color slides taken of me in all my beautiful baby glory. Just one day before the world’s tongues were abuzz about the untimely death of super-whatever Anna Nicole Smith, a man of infinitely more character and wisdom passed away on February 7, 2007. Bob Cline was my Dad’s first cousin, being the son of my Grandma Range’s brother Ira. As far as I recall, I never got the chance to meet Bob. I had talked about making the trek to his hometown of Evansville, Indiana on several occasions to visit with him, but like many things we plan to do, it never happened.

During the midst of my autograph collection spree in the Summer of 1985, I went through a phase of trying my hand at stars of It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World – no doubt inspired by a recent viewing of the film. Milton Berle and Jim Backus were my first attempts at collecting the co-stars. I sent them each a letter on August 12 along with an S.A.S.E. and two notecards. Milton Berle never sent me anything, but Jim Backus – best known, of course, for his role in Gilligan’s Island as millionaire Thurston Howell III – answered my letter with the swell, signed and inscribed 8×10 below.
