Dancing With the Stars and Waltzing Through L.A.

After I had utterly stuffed myself with a wide array of delicious sushi in San Pedro, Jimmy and I headed out to our next destination of Tuesday, October 7, 2008: the CBS Studios in Hollywood. Bob had secured us V.I.P. tickets to see the afternoon taping of Dancing With the Stars. I must admit that I had never been a follower of the show and was only going because I knew that it was something that many others might consider to be a cool thing. While I do enjoy TV tapings such as these, they do not thrill me as much as other celebrity events because I know that there is little or no chance of any personal interaction with the celebrities. I must say that Monday, October 6, 2008 was shaping up to be one of the best days of the year – if not my life. The first dream of my ‘dream come true tour’ had come true that morning: a visit to the
The West Wing is one of my all-time favorite dramatic television shows – and one of the show’s key main characters is C.J. Craig, portrayed by Allison Janney. In fact she played this particular role so well that it garnered her four Emmy Awards and two additional nominations. She has also starred in the Academy Award winning film American Beauty, and other acclaimed films such as Nurse Betty, Juno, and The Hours. Disney buffs might know her as the voice of Peach in Finding Nemo.
In the television world, there are a group of sitcoms that I strongly consider to be my shows. Some are obvious, some are not, and a few are very obscure. Among the not-so-obscure are the four major TV series starring one of my all-time comic idols Bob Newhart. The earliest of these series is The Bob Newhart Show, the story of a Chicago psychologist trying to survive amidst a bevy of crazies. Peter Bonerz played the role of Jerry Robinson, orthodontist inhabiting the same office building of Bob’s. Mr. Bonerz also made cameos on two of Newhart’s later series Bob and George & Leo.
