On the Case With Nancy Drew

Pamela Sue Martin was best known for her role as Nancy Drew in the late 70’s series The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries. Although I never watched the show at the time it was aired, I do now have the first two seasons of the show on DVD. She also had significant roles in The Poseidon Adventure and as Fallon Carrington Colby on the nighttime soap opera Dynasty. Although her acting career has never included anything personally significant to me, I did request that Bob pick me up a signed photo when she made an appearance at the Hollywood Collectors Show in the late 90’s. The photo he chose must certainly be one of the hottest photos ever taken.
On the evening of Tuesday, October 7, 2008, Jimmy and I had worked our way back to the Pantages Theatre in the hopes of catching David Garrison on his way out of the evening performance of Wicked. I had brought along my It’s Your Move photo that I had had
The Billy Jack films were a series of lowbrow Western movies featuring Tom Laughlin as Billy Jack, an American Indian Green Beret Vietnam War vetern, hapkido master, and gunslinger. One can only imagine the action in this series of four films that were made from 1967-1977. In fact I can only imagine, because to date I have not seen any of the films. Laughlin also directed these films under the name T.C. Frank. The films in the series were The Born Losers, Billy Jack, The Trial of Billy Jack, and Billy Jack Goes to Washington.
As far as Laurel and Hardy look-alikes go, I can take them or leave them. In fact, I’d generally rather leave them. For the most part I’d rather watch the real Laurel and Hardy in black and white up on the silver screen, than to see live and in living color imitators perform on a stage. But having said that, I will also confess that my favorite L or H look-alike has always been Jim MacGeorge. Not only does he look and sound the most like the real Stan Laurel, but he is also one of the nicest guys you’d ever hope to meet.
