Gee Wally, Why’d It Take Two Decades?

tony5One benefit of reading this website is that you get to witness history in the making. Last year I displayed my collection of Leave It To Beaver cast autographs up to that point, which can be seen here. At that time I lamented that I had been unsuccessful at obtaining the signature of Tony Dow, the actor who played Wally in the series. Toyland, Toyland

vf19The culmination of the fifth intenational Sons of the Desert convention in Valley Forge (actually King of Prussia), Pennsylvania came on the evening of Tuesday, July 29, 1986. This final banquet was quite a memorable one as it involved not only a recreation of Toyland from the 1934 Laurel and Hardy film Babes in Toyland, but featured celebrities from the original film itself! Tony Curtis is a legendary actor who has met with varying degrees of success over the duration of more than fifty years in the business. At the top of his game, he was in such classics as The Defiant Ones (for which he was nominated for an Academy Award), Some Like It Hot, Spartacus, and The Great Race. During the 70’s and 80’s he was in lesser-known roles such as The Bad News Bears Go to Japan, the remake of Little Miss Marker, and The Last Tycoon with Robert De Niro. Read the rest of this entry »

Nightmare in Burbank

helHeather Langenkamp was best known for her role as Nancy Thompson in the ever-popular and imaginative slasher film Nightmare on Elm Street. She went on to star in the franchise’s first real sequel to follow the film’s storyline (discounting the idiotic second installment), Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. And then she appeared again in the series’ most interesting installment Wes Craven’s New Nightmare in which she actually played herself being stalked by the spirt of good old Freddy Kruger. tonyThe fun of the fifth International Sons of the Desert convention in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, continued on Monday, July 28. Time had virtually stood still for me and the days really had no meaning at this point. True to the anthemic song of the Sons, I  in fact was ‘having the time of my life’ amidst all the friends, both new and old, camaraderie, memorabilia, films, purchases, events, autograph gathering, scholarly overtones, and of course heavily social undertones.
