The World of Sid & Marty Krofft
Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010
When I first wrote this posting that was originally titled “The World of Marty Krofft,” I stated that I was hoping that one day I might be able to change the title of this posting to “The World of Sid & Marty Krofft.” This was the name of a short-lived amusement park that the famous sibling producers helped design in Atlanta. In fact, both brothers were slated to appear at the July 18, 2009, Hollywood Show in Burbank – but unfortunately Sid had to cancel out. Marty made his appearance, with the money he was charging for signed photos going to charity. As you’ll note in the update below, however, I eventually did have reason to change the title. When I attended the Hollywood Celebrity Show in Chicago on Saturday, October 18, 2009, Tia Carrere wasn’t on my list of celebrities to gather an autograph from or a photo with. Oh, I knew she was there, I just had no interest. But when I realized that she was one of the main voices heard in the recent Disney animated classic Lilo & Stitch, I changed my tune right then and there. Tia is actually best known for her role in the inane comedy Wayne’s World, which I had seen – but practically forgotten.
I’ve had a crush on Rosanna Arquette since I first saw her quirky beauty in Amazon Women on the Moon. Her appearance in Playboy was on my mind during my 1990 vacation to
I had always hoped to get a chance to meet Charles Martin Smith. Not just because of his ultra-memorable and hilarious role as Terry the Toad in American Graffiti. Not just because of his great part in the film version of The Untouchables. Not just for his very early appearance on The Brady Bunch. Not just because he was Carter Pike’s brother Lyman on Picket Fences. Not just because he directed the premier episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I wanted to meet Charles Martin Smith because as a teenager, he was a member of the Sons of the Desert Laurel and Hardy appreciation society.
I had fully intended to pick up a signed photo of Greg Evigan at the Hollywood Show in Burbank on July 18, 2009. I was probably going to get a picture from B.J. and the Bear – as that was surely his most notable role to the general public in the late 1970’s even if I had never seen an episode. Among his many television appearances, I was most drawn to the sitcom My Two Dads. But not because of him. The fact is that the daughter of the two dads (the other played by Paul Reiser) was smoking hot – even if she was four years my junior.
