Tony Curtis

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

Tony Curtis is a legendary actor who has met with varying degrees of success over the duration of more than fifty years in the business. At the top of his game, he was in such classics as The Defiant Ones (for which he was nominated for an Academy Award), Some Like It Hot, Spartacus, and The Great Race. During the 70’s and 80’s he was in lesser-known roles such as The Bad News Bears Go to Japan, the remake of Little Miss Marker, and The Last Tycoon with Robert De Niro. Read the rest of this entry »

Nightmare in Burbank

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

helHeather Langenkamp was best known for her role as Nancy Thompson in the ever-popular and imaginative slasher film Nightmare on Elm Street. She went on to star in the franchise’s first real sequel to follow the film’s storyline (discounting the idiotic second installment), Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. And then she appeared again in the series’ most interesting installment Wes Craven’s New Nightmare in which she actually played herself being stalked by the spirt of good old Freddy Kruger. On the Case With Nancy Drew

Saturday, February 7th, 2009

psm2.jpgPamela Sue Martin was best known for her role as Nancy Drew in the late 70’s series The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries. Although I never watched the show at the time it was aired, I do now have the first two seasons of the show on DVD. She also had significant roles in The Poseidon Adventure and as Fallon Carrington Colby on the nighttime soap opera Dynasty. Although her acting career has never included anything personally significant to me, I did request that Bob pick me up a signed photo when she made an appearance at the Hollywood Collectors Show in the late 90’s. The photo he chose must certainly be one of the hottest photos ever taken.

Doris Day…Que Sera Sera

Sunday, February 1st, 2009

man_who_knew_too_much_1956.jpgDoris Day’s name is legendary as a film and TV star and recording artist. The name has always been synonymous with a wholesomeness from my perspective – one that admittedly hasn’t seen her perform in all that many roles – but above all else appreciates her as a Hitchcock actress. She portrayed Jo McKenna in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1956 version of The Man Who New Too Much, in which she sang the Academy Award winning song Que Sera Sera. This was what prompted me to write for an autograph request in the Fall months of 1997.
