Like WOW! Casey Kasem is #1!

ckOkay, that title was corny. But that doesn’t make it any less true. Of all the national Top 40 radio announcers I have enjoyed, Casey Kasem surely ranks at the top. (Can’t really think of any others, but that is beside the point). I do in fact have really swell memories of my Sunday morning paper route with my Mom or my Dad, listening to Casey Kasem’s top 100 or top 40 countdown, whichever it may be, and his soothing voice which blended with the aroma of my parents’ morning coffee as we puttered along dispensing the Dayton Daily News at the crack of dawn.

Going Ape Over Booth Colman

booth2Booth Colman doesn’t really have an instantly recognizable face. And that may be because his most famous role was that of Dr. Zaius in full ape regalia in Planet of the Apes. But Mr. Colman has had a rather lucrative career as a character actor in a slew of over 150 film and TV appearances. Most recently he has twice appeared as a judge in two of the Coen Brothers’ The Man Who Wasn’t There and Intolerable Cruelty. Read the rest of this entry »

Gee Wally, Why’d It Take Two Decades?

tony5One benefit of reading this website is that you get to witness history in the making. Last year I displayed my collection of Leave It To Beaver cast autographs up to that point, which can be seen here. At that time I lamented that I had been unsuccessful at obtaining the signature of Tony Dow, the actor who played Wally in the series. Toyland, Toyland

vf19The culmination of the fifth intenational Sons of the Desert convention in Valley Forge (actually King of Prussia), Pennsylvania came on the evening of Tuesday, July 29, 1986. This final banquet was quite a memorable one as it involved not only a recreation of Toyland from the 1934 Laurel and Hardy film Babes in Toyland, but featured celebrities from the original film itself!
