Mildred’s Autograph Book – Part 1

When my friend Jimmy and I visited former Our Gang member Mildred Kornman at her home in San Diego on October 4, 2005, one of the wonderful pieces of memorabilia that she shared with us was a little autograph book that she had had many celebrities sign during the 1930’s. 35 celebrities with 35 signatures to be exact. Mildred was the younger sister of silent Our Gang leading lady Mary Kornman and the daughter of still photographer Gene Kornman. You may recognize Leonard Stone from one of the outlandish number of television series in which he appeard from the mid-50’s to the mid-80’s. The wide range of performances can be found in such shows as The Defenders, I Spy, Lost in Space, Dragnet 1967, The Bob Newhart Show, Sanford and Son, M*A*S*H, All in the Family, and Night Court – to just scratch the surface. In my long illustrious life, I have met a few folks who I consider to be true television icons, but perhaps none have been as iconic as Larry Hagman. His film career was grossly limited, with the high points being a small role in the John Wayne film In Harm’s Way, a cameo in Superman, and supporting roles in Harry and Tonto, S.O.B., Nixon, and Primary Colors. Okay, here’s someone I never expected to meet and probably would have never sought out. His name is Joe Dallesandro and I would guess that most of you have never heard of him. He was, however, one of the most famous male sex symbols of American undergound films and the gay subculure of the 1960’s and 70’s.
