Thank You for That Wonderful Lie

My friend David has a subscription to a series of plays put on at the Alex Theatre in Glendale, California, and had often remarked to me how he would regularly see an actress who he knew from a couple of Three’s Company episodes. One of them entitled Strangers in the Night from 1982 was a particularly funny and memorable episode, in which Jack Tripper serenades his girlfriend and ends up sending a message to a plump neighbor of hers named Bernice, who then shows up for a date with Jack. In short, Jack ends up making it right and stands up for this woman Bernice, when his actual girlfriend shows up and mocks her. The episode comes to a close when Bernice says the following heartfelt line to Jack: “Thank you for that wonderful lie.”  Read the rest of this entry »

Those Acting Gigs… A Slippery Swope

Tracy Brooks Swope is an actress who appeared at the Hollywood Show in Los Angeles on January 7, 2017. She made it onto my list because she had starred in a prominent role in one single episode of The Partridge Family, the fourth season offering Queen for a Minute, in which her character Frankie, a friend of Laurie’s, tries out for the school basketball team and is rejected because of her sex, leading to a battle of the sexes among the Partridges. Tracy was both a find and beautiful performer, and as this was one of the earliest roles in her career, it was obvious that big things should have come.  Read the rest of this entry »

The 2017 La La Land Sitcom Odyssey Part 2

Bob and I got up on the morning of Thursday, January 5, 2018, grabbed some good ol’ continental breakfast in our fancy Hollywood Super 8 Motel, and then continued our quest of finding a smattering of sitcom locations in the Los Angeles area. We had had fun and good luck doing this the day before, and this day promised to continue the run. Wanting to capture virtually any sitcom location I could find for my Facebook Sitcom Kaleidoscope page, and being a big fan of The Brady Bunch, there were numerous cool sites related to that show on this day’s docket, beginning with the first one.  Read the rest of this entry »
