nancyallen1I don’t frequently hand out gushing compliments regarding a female celebrity’s attractiveness, unless I am sufficiently open-mouthed, all-out wow’ed. And Nancy Allen was just such an example of a gal who had what it took to make me stutter over my words. I found her throughly attractive at age 58…and I told her so. She seemed genuinely grateful for the compliment and told me sincerely that it was a ‘very nice thing to say’ to her.

So, yes, obviously it was quite a pleasant experience meeting Nancy Allen at the Hollywood Collectors Show on Saturday, October 4, 2008. Nancy had starred in a trio of great Brian DePalma films in the 1970’s and early 80’s: Carrie, Dressed to Kill, and Blow-Out. And the fact that DePalma had made a last minute switch removing her from the starring role in Carrie didn’t prevent her from marrying the famous director from 1979-84. Dressed to Kill, however, is my favorite of the three – a dreamy Psycho-esque horror flick that has haunted me every since my first viewing of it at my pal Jim Harwood’s house back in 1986.

Lightning struck a second time for Nancy Allen when she was cast as the female lead in the three films of the Robocop trilogy. But although she has worked for DePalma, Robert Zemeckis, and even Steven Spielberg (in 1941), my favorite thing about Nancy Allen was how nice she was, willingly posing for a photo with me, looking sharp and dressed to kill. I don’t care if she’s almost 60, I can’t deny I had a bit of a crush.

A great shot of Nancy Allen from Dressed to Kill  with the eerie Michael Caine creeping up behind her.

UPDATE: I encontered Nancy Allen again at the Hollywood Show on February 11, 2012. My friend Dean wanted a signed photo of her and I was not only happy to oblige (having her sign the exact same photo that I used at the very top of the posting), but I was happy to take advantage of the free photo op that went along with it. Well over three years after my first encounter with her, I was pleased to see that she still looked great – even though she had now passed the age of 60 mark… and I told her so once again! Obviously, black is her color.
