tab1I had long looked forward to meeting Erin Murphy, who was best known as the actress who played Tabitha from 1966-1972 on the TV sitcom Bewitched. And when I finally did, it was no disappointment because she was every bit as nice as she was beautiful. During that occasion I also met the twin brothers who has portrayed Tabitha’s younger brother Adam. Many may not know that Erin Murphy also had a twin sister with whom she shared the Tabitha role for the first two years of their appearance on the show.

Unlike Erin, her sister Diane Murphy seldom popped her head out to enjoy the fame that the TV series had brought them. She had left show business and achieved an M.B.A. in Management. Once in a while she would sign a stack of photos for her sister to take along to the celebrity shows but making appearances at them just wasn’t her thing. Naturally I became fascinated with meeting the ‘lost’ Tabitha.

And that’s exactly what I got to do when she showed up for a rare appearance at the Hollywood Show on January 12, 2013. I’m not much interested in discussing the sexuality of celebrities, but I couldn’t help but notice the Murphys’ similarity to the twin brothers: one sibling had gone one way, and one had gone the other. So it was amazing to me to see the incredible difference in style and fashion between these twin siblings.

However none of that overshadowed the thrill of finally meeting both ‘Tabithas’ together. They kept their prices reasonable too: $30 for a dual signed photo which included a free photo op. Since my new girlfriend back home was a big Bewitched fan, I picked up a different signed photo for Carolyn.

Whereas Erin keeps busy in the spotlight, appearing at shows and even working on a new sitcom pilot, I still haven’t seen Diane show up at any events since then, and it wouldn’t surprise me if she had found that it just wasn’t her thing. It makes me all the more happy that I got to meet her when I did.
