It’s not everyday that you find someone who appeared in both the original Star Wars and one of the Superman films. But I find your lack of faith that I could do it disturbing. Richard LeParmentier would be one such gentleman who fits the bill – and I was able to meet him at the Hollywood Show on February 11, 2012. His role in Star Wars IV: A New Hope was much more memorable than his abbreviated role as a reporter in Superman II. Although since he was married to Sarah Douglas, who played Ursa in the Superman films, it makes sense that he was present, even if only in the small part.

In Star Wars, he was Admiral Motti, who shares a great scene with Darth Vader – who proceeds to choke him by merely pinching his fingers together and not actually touching him. Sure, it was five seconds of fame for Mr. LeParmentier, but these few seconds of celluloid history have followed him around ever since. In fact, when I asked him to pose grabbing his neck, he declined and said that he would only ‘pinch’ my throat. It seems after so many requests, watching her father continually ‘gasping for air’ bothered his daughter so much that she asked him to stop posing that way.

Nevertheless, despite the refusal, I really like Richard LeParmentier and was happy to add him to my Star Wars collection, making the mental note that he also had the Superman connection. And if we’re keeping track, he was also Lieutentant Santino in Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
