While it’s probably true that Christopher Serrone only got the job playing the role of young Henry Hill, because of his physical resemblance to the actor playing the older Henry Hill (Ray Liotta), he did an admirable job in the part. I find Goodfellas to be one of the all-time great films, always worthy of a repeat viewing. So I was quite excited to get a chance to meet Christopher when he was scheduled to make an appearance at the Chiller Theatre show in Parsippany, New Jersey, on Saturday, October 30, 2010.

Making the experience even more memorable and fun was the fact that he was such a friendly, outgoing guy. He appeared to be at the show with his wife and baby. Since I was wearing my Ohio State shirt, he naturally tried to talk about them for a bit, but I steered the conversation back to his career. I also mentioned that I had met the real Henry Hill earlier in the year at a Hollywood Show, which got him talking about how Hill had served as a technical advisor on the film. He laughed at how you could now actually hire the former criminal to come to your house and cook an authentic Italian gangster meal for you and your family. He said it was funny. I asked “Funny how?”

I also asked him what he was up to lately in the acting realm. Unbeknownst to me, he hadn’t done a single film since Goodfellas – up until now. He had just starred in a low-budget World War II film called Pathfinders: In the Company of Strangers. He mentioned that was a new work by one of the directors of Four Rooms, but this doesn’t appear to be an accurate statement. He was also excited that the film was being made on authentic 1940’s film stock.

When I asked him to put a quote from the film on the photo I was purchasing, he knew exactly what to write: “Hey Ma! What do you think?” – to which she would respond with the title of this posting. It didn’t appear that many other fans were flocking around him, but I know that I for one was excited about this encounter.
