asun7.jpgIf the first part of our Myrtle Beach seems rather uneventful, that is because it was. I sometimes love to take vacations that are go-go-go, seeing as much as possible, and keeping so busy that I need a rest by the time I get home. California is always one of those types of trip. This one wasn’t. Mostly we ate…and watched TV…and played games for the first couple of days. The weather wasn’t quite warm enought to do a lot of swimming, so we found a lot of indoor fun, combined with jacketless trips to some local tourist draws.

On Sunday morning, March 18, we left our motel in Spartanburg, SC (after everyone – but me of course – ate the motel’s ‘deluxe’ continental breakfast) and embarked on the final five-hour jaunt toward Myrtle Beach. On the way, we stopped at KFC, a place where you wouldn’t expect to get a lot of good photos or material to share. However…

Come closer, lest we touch the hem of his garment

We finally arrived at our condo at the Links resort (room 103 – instead of 19, the room we stayed in last Summer) in the early afternoon. Karen took most of the obligatory room survey to make sure that all of the amenities of our condo were present and accounted for. This is usually Grandpa Murphy’s favorite part of the trip. I discovered that the living room, where Ashleigh and I were staying, had a ridiculously small TV slotted into the oversize entertainment center. I demanded recourse. Instead of bringing a new TV, they simply swapped it for the larger one upstairs.

That evening we went out to eat at Pizza Hut and had the worst service in town. Denise and Ashleigh got their pizza after most of us were done eating ours. The photo at the top indicates Ashleigh’s displeasure.

Sunday night at Pizza Hut, what more could one ask?

After dinner, we went to the local Kroger to do our grocery shopping for the week. I bought my weekly intake of wine, with enough left over to share. Bev had brought along a boatload of snacks, so we didn’t need many of those. Ashleigh and I also picked out the birthday cake that we would have for her later in the week.

The first evening saw little more than some standard games of Farkle (of which I remarkably won both of them) and the beginning of our typical TV shows on DVD watching. The first leg of our trip will be forever inextricably linked with the first season of “Family Ties.”
