"Hey Beaver, let's try smokin' it." - Larry Mondello, "Leave It to Beaver"

mood2He was such an unassuming little old gentleman, just shy of 90 years of age in fact, that it was hard to believe that this was Ron Moody, who had played the villianous Fagin in the 1968 Oscar winning Best Picture Oliver! His former co-stars Mark Lester and Shani Wallis were sitting nearby, but I had already gotten them earlier in the year at the April Hollywood Show in Los Angeles. I was pleased as punch that Mr. Moody had agreed to do this Hollywood Show in Chicago on September 7, 2013, along with them.

Ron Moody’s most famous role was certainly that of Fagin, but he also was notable as Uriah Heap in another famous Dickensian film David Copperfield, a TV movie that came out in 1969. He also played Vorobyaninov in Mel Brooks’ The Twelve Chairs. Moody starred in several other familiar TV series throughout the 1970’s and 80’s as well: Starsky and Hutch, Gunsmoke, Hart to Hart, and Murder, She Wrote to name a few. He continued to act on stage and screen up until around 2010.

It was awfully cool to get to meet Ron Moody, and shelling out the reasonable fee of $25 for an autograph and $5 for the photo op wasn’t a problem, especially considering his age and legendary status. He was even nice enough to pose for an extra picture with Carolyn.

Meeting Ron Moody was definitely one of the highlights of the show.
