"What in the wide, wide world of sports is going on here?" - Taggart, "Blazing Saddles"

Who’s the black private dick that’s a sex machine to all the chicks? I didn’t know what other films he had been in. I didn’t know how much he was going to cost. But I didn’t care. There was no way that I was going to skip out on getting a picture with Richard Roundtree, who had played the private detective John Shaft in a series of three so-called blaxploitation action film noir pictures Shaft, Shaft’s Big Score, and Shaft in Africa. All this, despite the fact that I had never seen a single frame of film from any of them. But ever time anyone mentions Shaft – the Isaac Hayes title track will start on an endless loop in my head. Shut your mouth.

And sad to say, when you go in with an open wallet, they will take from you. Damn right. I managed to get the price reduced by $5, but I still ended up paying $50 to get the signed photo above and the picture with Richard Roundtree. Shaft is a bad mother

Overall though, bad he was, he was a nice guy. When I asked him how he’d like to pose, he said “However you want. It’s your dime.” So since it was ‘my dime’, I opted for two photos. He’s a complicated man, but no one understand him but his woman. Regardless of the high price, it was pretty cool to be next to this particular 70’s icon – and I know I’ll find it even cooler when I get around to watching Shaft. Ya, damn right.
