bare4.jpgOn Thursday, August 3, 2006, Mom, Ashleigh, Briana, and I spent our evening at Barefoot Landing in Myrtle Beach. While trips to Barefoot Landing for me are usually mediocre at best, this one was quite fun – especially due to the fun I had with Ashleigh and Briana. The Landing itself is simply an outdoor shopping mall, with various attractions of distraction strategically planted around the complex.

For instance, shortly after arriving, two mini-Blues Brothers (that is, kids) sang a karaoke rendition of “Soul Man.” Later Briana was nearly enticed to ride a mechanical bull. And then there were the tigersbare2.jpg… These poor but beautiful creatures were laid out on display in the sweltering heat, looking as though they would collapse – actually, they were collapsed…and I couldn’t take my eyes off of them, feeling sorry for their plight. There was also a very animated monkey in this area. For a huge wad of cash, you get could a picture taken with them, but we passed on that. We shopped at the candy store (free taffy!), the bookstore, Teddy Town (see above), a Christian shop where I got a really cool Bible Handbook, and some new age store where people buy beads, rocks, and other similar items. The shoe store, believe it or not, was the most fun though. For some reason, Ash, B, and I found a mirror to snap some great photos of. The one seen at top is a nice one, but the one below is my absolute favorite. While the three of us goofed off, you can see Mom obliviously shopping.

Speaking of mirrors, we encountered a lot of them near the end of the evening when we went through a House of Mirrors (in lieu of Briana getting on that mechanical bull). We had to wear plastic gloves on the inside, because we would inevitably be bumping into quite a few mirrors and panes of glass and this kept them fingerprint-free. We finally found the end of the maze, and then went back in for more. It is amazing how such a small area can seem so infinite with the mirrors to confuse your senses.

Once we exited into the lobby, we found more mirrors – the kind that distort you. Yes, its embarassing, but here are the distorted versions of us:

Up next, I’ll wrap up our trip…
