Brad's Musings and Meanderings

random acts of quoting

"Look at the silly, sloppy look on his face." - Stan Laurel, "Swiss Miss"

pie.jpgAfter our long day in the hot, tepid weather at Stone Mountain, retiring to the hotel restaurant with our pals Jimmy and Dave really hit the spot. Ashleigh had won a $75 gift certificate to the eatery at the banquet the night before, a result of our scavenger hunt victory. She and I splurged on some fine food and dessert, including my steak that looked like the United States of America, and was almost as big (above left). While we were eating, Ed Greim strolled through the restaurant chatting with the diners.

Later that evening, David treated us all to cake in the local ice cream shop across the street from our hotel, where we enjoyed some gourmet offerings along with some of our other Sons friends: the elder Wileys, the Duffs, Marcia, Lori J.M., Bob Duncan, Ken Runyan, and another man of whose identity I could not say.

Okay, now here’s where things get silly. I mentioned before that Ashleigh and I were snapping photos of Sons in their natural habitat, and one of these photos just happened to bee of our friend Lee who was sitting with us at the Thursday night banquet. If taken one second earlier or one second later, the photo would not have been funny – but as it was, it was. Here it is:

So after we all laughed about this great shot, we all felt obliged to try and re-create it in our own way. We each took turns shoveling a large piece of cake into our mouths and snapping pictures. Here are the results:

Things didn’t end with this convention, either. Just a couple of weeks ago (which would be about eight months after the original photo) I had my friend Jason pose in the same manner during one of our evenings at Wednesday night trivia. Like this:

And as a final tribute, my photo of Lee now hangs on the office door of one of the Walt Disney executives, courtesy of David. When I visited the Disney studios in February 2007, I snapped this photo of us, enjoying the fruit of my labor:

The convention concludes (sob, sniff) in the next posting…
