Bev and Ed: The Beginning of Many Great Years

The first wedding that I ever attended was on May 20, 1972. My aunt Bev was marrying a fellow that she had met at the Catholic Young Person’s Club (CYPC), the same organization in which my parents had met. My future uncle, young Ed Tangeman was attending an outdoor volleyball game in late October of 1971 with his friend Mike Kennedy, a guy who Bev knew through my aunt Diana and my Mom. Bev was there with Mary Stoff (also a friend of my parents) and her ears immediately perked up when she heard that there was a guy there named ‘Ed’ – it seems that the last three guys in whom she had been interested were also named Ed. It was a distinct privilege to be able to meet Lucille Hardy Price, the widow of one of my two biggest idols, Oliver Hardy. I can’t say that I really ever got the chance to know her, as she passed away in 1986 before I had thrust myself into interviewing and getting to know some of the celebrites who worked with Laurel and Hardy and in the Our Gang Comedies. But I feel as if I am very acquainted with her because of the many interviews with her that I have read and seen, as well as first-hand accounts from many of my friends who certainly did know her. 
My one and only visit to date to the central section of our country occurred during our Spring Break from school, which lasted from March 22 – 30, 1986. My Mom, Denise, and I took advantage of our Spring break from school and flew out to Colorado to visit my aunt Darlene and uncle Bob for a few days at the end of the week. Although Dad was living back home again, he didn’t come with us. Most likely we had had the plans arranged before my parents reconciled. Darlene and Bob had lived in Colorado Springs for about two-and-a-half years at this point, Bob having been located there during his Army stint. I had always been very fond of Darlene and was really looking forward to the trip.
