Texas Sunday: Waco to Huntsville

We awoke on the morning of Sunday, March 30 in our little room at the Lighthouse B&B in McGregor, Texas ready to embark on another fun-filled day of historical traveling arcross the huge and great state of Texas. Our hosts Jerry and Jan Walters had prepared a scrumptous homemade breakfast of eggs, sausage, and waffles. Bob and I were the only guests in the inn other than Jerry’s in-laws. We had a nice breakfast with these overt Republicans whom Bob almost kicked under the table when they began their Clinton-bashing. Andrew Johnson and Me

History seems to waver back and forth when deciding if Andrew Johnson was good for our country or not. Having survived John Wilkes Booth’s plot to overtake the government when his would-be assassin lost his nerve, Andrew Johnson was sworn in as our nation’s 17th president following the death of Abraham Lincoln on April 15, 1865. Charged with the monumental task of the post-Civil War Reconstruction, Johnson would feud openly with Congress who wanted harsher treatment of the southern states. Eco Adventures 2 – 1986

Just for the record, the first seven pictures shown here were most likely taken when my Mom, Dad, and I brought Denise to camp during the summer of 1986. I’m thinking that she went there before I did, but I cannot be certain. We spent some time hiking through the woods and exploring before releasing her to her Junior camp. Regardless of when her time came, mine came Sunday, July 6, thru Saturday July 12, 1986. This was my second time at Ec0 Adventures camp, and I had had such a great time during the Summer of 1985 that coming back seemed like a no-brainer. Read the rest of this entry »
Captain Kangaroo

Like most kids, I loved the daily kid shows that were on in my pre-school days. Local show Uncle Al was probably my favorite with a close second by nationally syndicated Captain Kangaroo. His real name was Bob Keeshan and he had a show from 1955-84 on the CBS network. That’s quite a long haul. I remember Mr. Greenjeans and that bizarre moose that hung out with him.
