The First of the Hot Lips

Sally Kellerman is best known for her portrayal of Margarent “Hot Lips” Houlihan in the 1970 Robert Altman film version of MASH. She would even be nominated for an Oscar for this role. It is almost unthinkable that she actually declined to reprise the role when the TV show M*A*S*H was being cast. The last couple of years I have shared some vintage images from my Mom’s side of the family as we approached the Christmas holiday. This year I’ve found just a couple of really cool Christmas postcards that were send out by my Dad’s family in the early 1950’s. Unfortunately, they are not dated, but it appears that the photos used are from around 1951 or 52 perhaps – when my Dad was about four or five years old, respectively. The photo at right looks to be taken even a year or two after that. Funny how Christmas trees even look so warm and inviting even when they are in black and white! 
Along with the start of my kindergarten year came the Fall of 1977. Within this time frame fell my sixth birthday, Trick or Treat, and Thanksgiving – all of which would be enjoyed for the very last time during our occupancy of the house on Echo Hill. Arriving first was the big birthday party. My actual birthday fell on Sunday, October 2 – so my party was doubtlessly that day or the day before. This was most likely the first time that I had friends (rather than just family) to my party. Clearly, I hadn’t made many new friends in Kindergarten class yet as the only ‘outsiders’ were neighbor kids. 
The only thing that was unfortunate about getting the chance to meet Davy Jones at the July 18, 2009, Hollywood Collectors show, was that I didn’t find out that he was going to be present until after I had already arrived in California.
