This posting will be the last in the series of ‘missing links’ of 2006. I began the website on September 13 and thereafter chronicled two vacations from the summer that had just ended, but didn’t pick up the time period in the middle, so here I bridge the gap between August 6 and September 12. My Myrtle Beach posting did mention that in between the two vacations I opened our first Marketplace store on July 20 and that Ashleigh attended the NYC (National Youth Conference) week in Colorado of July 23-28. We left for Myrtle Beach the next day. What it did not mention was that Briana spent her first week at Woodland Altars from July 16-22. Read the rest of this entry »

When I was in my ‘heavy metal phase’ of 1987-88, I wasn’t much into girl singers at all. There was death metal, heavy metal, glam metal, and pop metal – and virtually nothing else that held my interest for that short one-year period of my life. Girls weren’t really allowed on MTV’s Headbangers Ball as far as I was concerned, unless they were there for eye candy. I had a lot to look forward to going into the summer months of 1986. Eighth grade was over and it was time to have loads of fun. It was at this juncture in my life that I began what I sometimes think of as my ‘double-life.’ I was slimmed down, vastly interested in people of the female persuasion, ready for mischief, and to be a teenager on the prowl. Sean Young has had a wide and varied film career, starring in many that I have enjoyed over the years. Perhaps most notable is her part of Rachael opposite Harrison Ford in the cult classic sci-fi thriller Blade Runner – a film that I first saw after our meeting. But I had seen her in several films before our encounter at the Hollywood Show in Burbank, on Saturday, April 24, 2010. For instance, Stripes, Wall Street, Dick Tracy, Kingpin, and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. Read the rest of this entry »

My first summer on Winterset came to an end on August 29, 1978 and it was back to the grind – my second out of thirteen grueling years of public school. I returned to Fairbrook Elementary, but this time instead of going to school in St. Andrew’s School next door, I joined the ranks of the kids who were in ‘numbered’ grades in the main school building. While it was true that we were the low men on the totem pole – or as some upper classmen referred to us, firsties – we had to start somewhere. The other big change was that I was now going to school for a full day, which began somewhere around 8am and ended at 3:10pm, as I recall. I braced myself for the big leagues. I had my picture taken on October 9 – at the age of 7 years, 7 days – to commemorate this occasion. Read the rest of this entry »
