Cleveland: What’s It Good For?

mon15.jpgIf I were Edwin Starr, I might answer that with “absolutely nothin'” – but since Bob and I spent the better part of Monday, July 28, 2008 in this town, it must have been good for somethin’. The day started off with a nice breakfast in our Comfort Inn motel. They had a nice array and some of those great do-it-yourself waffles that I am seeing more and more of lately. The dining area was surprisingly crowded and some guy was hogging the internet access, but I was able to get on for a few minutes before we headed out. Read the rest of this entry »

Amsterdam and the Convention Kickoff

am9.jpgIt was nice to finally get a chance to sleep in on Wednesday, July 9, 2008. After four full days of traveling from sun-up to sundown (and the sun went down late), it was a much-needed refresher. Unfortunately it meant sacrificing some precious time in the city of Amsterdam. Afterall, we were at the ‘Amsterdam’ convention, but since we were staying in Alphen aan den Rijn, on the outskirts of the city, we had yet to see the famous and debaucherous Amsterdam. Harvey Korman: Splendid, Splendid

hk2.jpgI grew up watching syndicated reruns of Carol Burnett and Friends, and one of my favorite parts of the show was always waiting to see how long it would take for Tim Conway to crack up Harvey Korman in the show. It was like a game that we were all in on. Korman always did a remarkably good job and every once in a while he would even turn the tables. Throughout Harvey Korman’s forty years of acting, he starred in everything from television shows to his own variety show, and from low budget rubbish to blockbuster films.
