The Hollywood Show and Other Adventures in Burbank
Saturday, October 30th, 2010
It was a most lucrative visit to Culver City the morning of Saturday, October 9, 2010 – what with finding all of the new Little Rascals locations and all – but I was in a hurry to get to the Hollywood Show at the Burbank Mariott Hotel and Convention Center. This was to be my eighth collector show in Burbank, sixth at this venue, and second of the year. This was the reason for my whirlwind California trip; I was happy to be here but also in a bit of a rush to get signatures from and photographs with a lengthy list of celebrities before we had to move on to the next activity of the day. Ashleigh and I pressed on at the Magic Kingdom as we creeped into the afternoon hours of Friday, September 17, 2010. She and I had done some bouncing around from place to place that morning, taking full advantage of the early, uncrowded hours – while also satiating the hunger of her pregnant little belly. But by noon, we were ready to proceed pretty much our normal route, finishing up in Adventureland and moving back into Frontierland. We started out at the Country Bear Jamboree, whose next performance was beginning just as we walked up to its front doors.
Less than two weeks before my trip to California, an Our Gang buff named Brian Fisher contacted me through Facebook and advised me that he had been reading this website and seen my love of the Laurel and Hardy film locations; he himself had located a few locations used in some Little Rascals films by searching street views through Google Earth. Although I had an incredibly busy day ahead, I thought that it would most certainly be worthwhile to check these out during my visit. So Jimmy and I got up extra early and made a stop in Culver City before we headed to Burbank for the Hollywood Show on Saturday, October 9, 2010.
There have been many years in the past that I have gone to Walt Disney World in back-to-back years. And there have even been several during which I visited both Disneyland and Disney World in the same year. But on Friday, September 17, 2010, this became the first year that I visited both Disneyland and Walt Disney World twice in the same year. Regardless of the impressive record-breaking, I just went there again to have fun. Of course, this was the part of our road trip that Ashleigh was looking forward to most of all.
There were two weeks between my little road trip to Chicago and my little air trip to California. Not a lot exciting there. I finished my 1974 Oscar nominees and continued with Two and Half Men. I had a couple of good lunches at work, one with Brandie at Benihana for teppanyaki on September 29, 2010, one with Tim at Tan Thai Cuisine on October 1 – both delicious. Right smack in the middle of these two weeks was my 39th birthday. Nothing exciting there either. I ended up spending it at home, watching some 1937 Oscar nominees, eating Burger King, and taking a nap. I justified the boring day by notifying everyone that I would be celebrating the following weekend.
