Sunken Gardens 1975

As I deduced in my previous posting about Florida 1975 and my first trip to Disney World, my Dad did in fact bring along his camera. Once he agreed that there must be additional slides of this trip somewhere, he went on double-secret alert scouting for the missing transparencies. On Christmas Eve, he presented me with the heretofore lost artifacts, which had turned up in the back of his closet, along with some other great slides of the era – plus some additional ones of his family trips from the 1960’s. Oliver Hardy Locations Around Harlem

As it was my first time in Harlem, Georgia, I wanted to make sure that I took the time to scout the area and find all the relevent landmarks of the hometown in which Oliver Hardy was born. I was a little disappointed that there was not a formal tour of the area, nor even a map pinpointing the locations, but since the town was so incredibly small, it wasn’t hard to for the locals to point us in the right direction – and even accompany us to the cemetery.
Myrtle Beach 2006 – The Fun Begins with Passing the Hat

Although we are only a week away from Christmas Eve, temperatures are expected to reach the 60’s today. Already it is 53 degrees and it is only 8:30 a.m. Last week the temperatures went from the sixties to nine degrees and back again. This is easier than bearing the extreme cold, mind you, but this crazy weather is making me long for Summer again. And that means it’s time to begin my Myrtle Beach 2006 series of photos!

One of the reasons I voted in 2004 to have the convention in Harlem was because it gave me the opportunity to visit Oliver Hardy’s birthplace. Often I had considered making the trek to attend the annual Oliver Hardy festival in October but it never panned out. Since the town is somewhat off the beaten path, I knew it would be difficult to swing into Harlem during any of our frequent trips through Georgia to Florida. Read the rest of this entry »
