CHRISTMAS 7 – 1977

There is something special about Christmas Eve 1977 that I can’t quite put my finger on. Somehow it epitomized my entire existence in the 70’s on Echo Hill Lane. It is fondly remembered as one of the greatest Christmases of my life, although I can scarcely remember any particulars of the evening. Yet still I can perfectly visualize sitting on our green couch in front of the roaring fire, A Very Mancini Christmas album playing on the reel-to-reel tape, with family surrounding me as we spent our very last holiday season in this house. The last couple of years I have shared some vintage images from my Mom’s side of the family as we approached the Christmas holiday. This year I’ve found just a couple of really cool Christmas postcards that were send out by my Dad’s family in the early 1950’s. Unfortunately, they are not dated, but it appears that the photos used are from around 1951 or 52 perhaps – when my Dad was about four or five years old, respectively. The photo at right looks to be taken even a year or two after that. Funny how Christmas trees even look so warm and inviting even when they are in black and white!
The big news in my life around the start of the Christmas 1991 season was the supposed ABR job that my ‘friend’ Keith was getting me. At the thought of beginning this professional work, I got my first major haircut right around the season and shed the long flowing mullet in favor of a much more subdued and reserved mullet. The other thing that I was heavily interested in at this time was Depeche Mode, the seventh of my Big Seven Bands.
