The Wrestling Invasion

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

wres1You may be surprised to learn that someone of my supposed intelligence has on at least two time periods of my life, been sucked into the rough and tumble soap opera that is big time championship wrestling. My first go-around with the sport was back in the early 1980’s (from about 1982-84) when Georgia Championship Wrestling reigned supreme of the Superstation TBS. I watched it religiously, bought the magazines, and even went to some of the live matches. Read the rest of this entry »

A Very Greg Encounter

Saturday, August 15th, 2009

gregbradyEarlier this year, I had the unique opportunity to meet three of the cast member kids (plus Cousin Oliver) from one of my favorite campy sitcoms The Brady Bunch. Little did I know that just a few months later, all of these same Brady actors plus an additional one would be appearing at the (newly christened) Hollywood Show in Burbank on Saturday, July 18, 2009. That additional one was Barry Williams who portrayed elder brother, ultra-hip, really groovy and happening-in-a-far-out-way Greg Brady. Read the rest of this entry »

What Happens in Vegas…’09

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

da16After driving all morning toward our destination on Sunday, July 12, 2009, the first thing that Bob and I did was obvious when we arrived in Las Vegas around noon: find an all-you-can eat sushi bar. We chose The Sushi Factory, the same spot we had previously enjoyed during our 2007 visit to Las Vegas. It was just as good as I remembered as we scarfed down the various delicacies. I mostly stuck to the expensive specialty rolls – which made up for the reasonable $21.95 lunch fee. Amidst the volcano, caterpillar, 310, the dynamite, and the myriad of deep fried, eel sauce doused raw fish, I was one happy camper. Still I didn’t quite stuff myself the way had during my previous visit. Read the rest of this entry »

pt5From the hours of 9pm – 11pm on the evening of Monday, July 13, 2009, all was right with the world. I was sitting alone next to two strangers in the front row of the balcony at the Rio in Las Vegas enjoying my third show in this very room. I hadn’t intended on seeing Penn & Teller during my most recent Las Vegas trip. After all I had already seen them four times – in Columbus in 1994, in Dayton in 1995, and twice at the Rio in Vegas in 2005 and 2007. The last time I saw them, I felt like their routines were getting a little old. Read the rest of this entry »

Larry Storch

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

storch2In addition to his voice-over work in such cool cartoons as Tennessee Tuxedo, The Brady Kids, and Scooby-Doo, Larry Storch has made appearances in numerous sitcoms. Among my favorites are I Dream of Jeannie, Gilligan’s Island, All in the Family, and a recurring role in Car 54, Where Are You? Unfortunately, the TV show that is he is most associated with is F Troop, in which he played Corporal Agarn, is one that I have never cared for at all. Read the rest of this entry »
