Mike Connors

The logical show from which most folks would know actor Mike Connors would be Mannix, which ran for eight season from 1967-1975. Afterall, his performance as title character Joe Mannix garnered him four Golden Globe nominations (he won once) and four Emmy nominations. But no…having never seen a single episode of Mannix, it was the one-season wonder from 1981-82 known as Today’s F.B.I., from which I know the man. Because, what ten year old wouldn’t watch a show called Today’s F.B.I. ? Read the rest of this entry »
You know him and love him…or at least tolerate him…in the classic film Grease and the not-so classic sequel Grease 2, in which he played the ultra-geeky Eugene Felnic. But I remember him even more from one of my childhood staple films Midnight Madness, the crummy all-niter scavenger hunt film that was produced by Walt Disney Pictures and put Michael J. Fox on the map. This film contained Deezen’s oft-quoted (at least by my sister Denise and me) line, “Hug Me!”
The great Mary Ann vs. Ginger debate has raged since time immemorial. Or at least since 1964 when Gilligan’s Island first made its campy debut. Dawn Wells’ career began in Hollywood with a few TV show guest appearances which led to her roll as Mary Ann Summers, one of the subjects of the great debate. I had asked Bob to pick me up the signed photo seen at left at one of the Hollywood Collectors Shows during the late 1990’s – but I had never had the opportunity to meet her (as I did with castmate
I knew that it would behoove me to bring along a large wad of cash to the Hollywood Show held at the Burbank Mariott Hotel and Convention Center on Saturday, April 24, and Sunday, AprilĀ 25, 2010. The collector and celebrity show in Burbank must certainly be one of the largest in the country. The one on this date was the fifth one I’ve attended over the past five years (seventh total) and I must say that it was the best show I’ve seen to date. I usually pontificate on the greediness of the some of the celebrities, but I’m going to spare you that this time. After all, no matter if there were a few putzes in the mix, I came away happy…albeit much poorer.
I was particularly interested in getting a photo take with Spin and Marty so that I could share it with my Dad. I know the power of nostaligic TV shows from one’s childhood and the serial installments of The Adventures of Spin and Marty on the Mickey Mouse Club were a major one for him. Although I own the Walt Disney Treasure DVD (in the collector tin) of the first of three seasons of their series, I have only had time to watch a few of them. Obviously though, as die-hard Disney buff and aficionado, I had enough interest in having Bob pick up a dual signed photo of the boys’ team when they had made a rare joint appearance at a Hollywood Collectors Show.
