It pays to have good, later powerful, friends during childhood, because apparently they might one day make your childhood dreams come true. Greg Grunberg was a lifelong fan of Star Wars, and since he was good friends with the director of the new Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens, he managed to wiggle his way into Star Wars lore by portraying the minor role of Snap Wexley. Of course this isn’t to say that it was only Abrams who led to Grunberg’s success. After all you might catch him making appearances in TV shows like Ned and Stacey, Diagnosis Murder, and Murphy Brown prior to his recurring and somewhat larger role in J.J. Make no mistake: I love conversation pieces. Those interesting photos that might come about intentional or they might come about by happenstance. Like that famous one of Elvis and Richard Nixon, which was intentional to be sure. Or there’s that famous one of me, Jeff Conaway, and Loni Anderson that came about by happenstance…and my willingness to butt in. There are quite a few reasons that one might be interested in Mariel Hemingway. Literature buffs would be captivated about meeting the granddaughter of famed American literary giant Ernest Hemingway. Or cheesecakes buffs – or perverts – might be interested in the fact that Mariel Hemingway was a Playboy covergirl and appeared in a magazine pictorial, as well as portraying Playmate Dorothy Stratten in the acclaimed Bob Fosse film Star 80. Oscar buffs and Woody Allen fans would know Mariel as the Oscar nominee for Best Supporting Actress of 1980 for the film Manhattan.
