RULE #1: When you’re in the ‘meeting celebrities’ game and you stumble across someone who starred in a very famous black and white film, get a photo with them. RULE #2: If you don’t know exactly who they are, see rule #1. That may be a bit of an exaggerated bit of frippery for effect, because the fact is that I researched a bit about Ann Robinson before I met her at the January 12, 2013 Hollywood Show in Los Angeles. But before I looked her up, if you would have asked me who she we was I couldn’t have told you.
It kind of sounds like a cool band name, but actually it is something that I learned about Bebe Buell when I met her at Chiller Theatre on October 27, 2012. It has been quite some time since I had went for the autographs of Playboy Playmates solely on the strength of them being a Playmate. Bebe was no exception because the fact that she was the November 1974 Playmate of the Month was just one of the things that I knew about Bebe.
Anyone who has followed my website will already know that I’ve had an off and on fascination with professional wrestling. I loved it as a little grade-school kid, then enjoyed it fleetingly as a teenager, and returned to it in my late twenties. While I haven’t followed the current goings-on in the ‘sport’, I’ve never lost my fascination for the old days. The athleticism. The drama. And mostly the comedy. But if I had to pick my favorite era, it would undoubtedly hearken back to the early 1980’s when I first got hooked into those wonderful weekend broadcasts of Georgia Championship Wrestling on channel 17 TBS hosted by the fabulous Gordon Solie. Even my parents knew that the best punishment they could deliver me when I screwed up regularly was to take away my wrestling for the weekend. When that happened, I’d lay next to the TV so I could hear it, even if I couldn’t watch.
