Franklin D. Roosevelt and Me
Friday, January 25th, 2013
Whatever your opinion of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, I think we can all agree that his presidency was unlike any other. Logistically setting it far apart from any President before or since his administration was the simple fact that he was elected to four terms, which is two more than any other President ever would be. His role as our nation’s 32nd leader from 1933-1945 came during some of the most trying times in our country’s history. Through his Fireside Chats, he offered hope to the American people through his direction and intense social reform, many programs of which still resonate today. Then he saw the Allied Powers through nearly all of World War 2, before dying in office and passing the torch to his Vice-President Harry S. Truman. So it was fun to come upon yet another pair (they always seem to come in pairs, don’t they?) at the Fanboy Expo in Knoxville, Tennessee, on October 26, 2012. Since this event was so sparsely populated with fans on this particular day, I had my free reign to chat all I wanted with these guys. The first, and larger or the two, was Hillbilly Jim, who was lesser known by his real name Jim Morris. Read the rest of this entry »
More High Living at the 2012 Sons of the Desert Convention in Manchester
Monday, January 21st, 2013
After the vodka exposure from the night before, it was nothing short of a miracle that I was able to get up, get ready, and make my way downstairs to the lobby at 9:30am to meet up with The Wileys and David for the breakfast buffet at the Cafe in the Park restaurant in the hotel. But somehow I did… and with that, kicked off the final full day of the Sons of the Desert International Convention in Manchester, New Hampshire on Saturday, July 21, 2012.
