Who Shopped J.R.?

In my long illustrious life, I have met a few folks who I consider to be true television icons, but perhaps none have been as iconic as Larry Hagman. His film career was grossly limited, with the high points being a small role in the John Wayne film In Harm’s Way, a cameo in Superman, and supporting roles in Harry and Tonto, S.O.B., Nixon, and Primary Colors. But quite obviously, these are not the parts that he was known for. Read the rest of this entry »
Okay, here’s someone I never expected to meet and probably would have never sought out. His name is Joe Dallesandro and I would guess that most of you have never heard of him. He was, however, one of the most famous male sex symbols of American undergound films and the gay subculure of the 1960’s and 70’s. Dallesandro was one of the so-called Warhol superstars, which was a group of ‘personalities’ promoted by artist Andy Warhol.
In the gorgeous senior photo at left is Amy Meredith. This photo was sent to me following our last year at Camp Woodland Altars together. Amy and I had attended Youth Camp together in 1987, 1988, and 1989. We were in the same group led by Kevin Dull and Judy Yoder in 1988. She was always one of my favorite people in the camp – smart, pretty, kind, and with a great sense of humor. I’m not sure how her judgement was though, because apparently she seemed to be fond of me as well. On the back of the photo, she wrote:
Elliott Gould reached the apex of his film career in the 1970’s with notable roles in such classic films as MASH, Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice (which garnered him an Academy Award nomination), A Bridge Too Far, and The Long Goodbye. But it has been some his more recent work (following a very silent period of low budget rubbish) that has grabbed my attention. Specifically, I loved his role as Jack Geller (father of Ross and Monica) in the classic sitcom Friends.
