Ira and Mildred’s House 1980

I previously wrote about my first visit with Ira and Mildred Cline in the posting found here. That was my first visit, and this one from 1980 – if I am calculating correctly – was my third. This excursion was taken during our June trip to Siesta Key. Darlene, who was on this vacation with us, was beginning to feel the pangs of homesickness, so decided to stay back at our condo for some alone-time. Here are a few photos from our day with Ira and Mildred. Read the rest of this entry »
Mom remembers that the Central Printing condo was on a very private area of the beach. In fact Siesta Key itself was a very small and mostly private island – so whenever we had to go into town for food, we had to drive our new 1980 Buick (which my Dad remembers had stick shift problems on the way down and had to be looked at) into Sarasota. Therefore, mostly we stayed at our little condo and ate meals that my Mom cooked and swam in the ocean (allowing ample time as not to get cramps). As indicated by the following pictures, we did do quite a bit of splashing in the waves.
Second grade had ended and I was unleashed upon the first Summer of the 1980’s. In June we took our first vacation of the year – to my Dad’s company-owned condo in Siesta Key, Florida. I have lots of pictures from this trip but mostly only vague recollections of it. What I do recall, was that I was unbearbly excited about going on it. “VACATION” had begun to elicit a strong emotional response about this time of my life and I simply could not wait to leave. Darlene went with us, which upped the excitablilty factor even more.
I have a slew of fond memories of my time in second grade class taught by Mrs. Deets at Fairbrook Elementary, like…
