storch2In addition to his voice-over work in such cool cartoons as Tennessee Tuxedo, The Brady Kids, and Scooby-Doo, Larry Storch has made appearances in numerous sitcoms. Among my favorites are I Dream of Jeannie, Gilligan’s Island, All in the Family, and a recurring role in Car 54, Where Are You? Unfortunately, the TV show that is he is most associated with is F Troop, in which he played Corporal Agarn, is one that I have never cared for at all.

Still, when I attended the Chiller Theatre show in Parsippany, New Jersey, on April 18, 2009, I could not resist buying one of his F Troop photos to get signed by him when I saw him sitting there wearing his iconic military gear from the sitcom. At age 86, he was quite a nice guy and more than willing to pose for a picture in all his regalia. One day I may come around and get into the show, but meanwhile I am glad to have had the opportunity to meet Larry Storch.

  1. And let’s not forget that he did fly to the south of France to appear with his friend Tony Curtis in a great episode of “The Persuaders” in the early 70’s. I got nothing signed, nor did I pose for a photo, but he seemed genuinely pleased that I remembered that fine TV appearance of his.

  2. I like ‘F Troop’. It had a great ensemble portraying such great characters as: a nearly blind lookout, a bugler that cannot play, the world’s oldest private, and a tribe of cowardly Indians. “Chief Wild Eagle”, of the Hekawi tribe as played by Frank Dekova, was my favorite. I think in one episode he said his name was really “Yellow Chicken”, which I have never forgotten.
