Cars of Reno, Hard Rock of Tahoe

Sunday, August 22nd, 2010

If you’re not much of a gambler, there is really not a whole lot to do or see in Reno – which might explain why we spent our evening bowling the night before. But one interesting attraction that might be found there is the National Automobile Museum. This acclaimed museum first opened in 1989 to showcase the collection of gaming pioneer Bill Harrah. Today it contains over 200 cars, displayed within impressive and dynamic displays. Bob and I got there when the museum opened at 9:30am on the morning of Wednesday, June 16, 2010. The Beavercreek Beavers – 20 Years Later

Saturday, August 21st, 2010

For those of you who may have been concerned – and I know there are many of you – that I was not going to reach an acceptable quota (whatever that may be) of ‘reunions’ with old friends whom I hadn’t seen in five or more years, you obviously had forgotten that this was the 20th anniversary of my graduation from Beavercreek High School. So on Saturday, July 17, 2010 – less than a week after returning from Florida – I headed out for my third high school class reunion being held at the Holiday Inn in Beavercreek. Miss Teschmacher!!!

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

Valerie Perrine’s real breakout role came in 1974, when she starred as the wife of comedian Lenny Bruce in the film Lenny. For this role, she was nominated for both an Academy Award and a Golden Globe. She then went on to some acclaim when she played Mrs. W.C. Fields (Carlotta Monti) in W.C. Fields and Me. It is my duty to tell you of these achievements and acclaimed roles, but for a Superman buff such as myself, the real important part that she played was that of Eve Teschmacher in both Superman and Superman II. As the busty live-in mistress of the villainous Lex Luthor, her change of heart eventually allows her to help Superman escape Lex’s evil clutches. Read the rest of this entry »

We had had a nice full day at the Magic Kingdom the day before, so we slept in for quite a while on the morning of Wednesday, July 7, 2010. The plan had been to visit Disney’s Hollywood Studios, which had be re-christened since my last visit when it was still known as the Disney-MGM Studios. We chose this park because although it was scheduled to close at 7pm, it had two bonus hours for guests of the Disney resorts. By the time we got up, ready, and had caught the bus to the park, it was just after noon when we entered its gates. Then we did what all normal people do…we headed down Sunset Boulevard toward the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. And naturally, we grabbed a FastPass for the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, which was for much later in the day. Read the rest of this entry »

Among the former Ankeney Chargers whom I ran into at the Beavercreek High School 20-year reunion on Saturday, July 17, 2010, were two very lovely ladies whom I actually didn’t know too well during my time at Ankeney. April Jones (seen at left duirng a shy moment during ninth grade) was an absolutely adorable girl who went through Junior High with me, but whom I didn’t really get to know too well until high school. She was lumped into a group of gals that ran in circles with a group of gals with whom I ran in circles. Make sense? In short, we were all part of the ‘hood’ squad for a while in high school.
