Key West 2011

Concerned about the liklihood of over-eating on a cruise ship, I went ahead and skipped breakfast altogether on the morning of Tuesday, February 8, 2011. The ship was beginning the process of docking in Key West, Florida that morning as I woke up, and by the time Mom & Bob went to eat and I got up and ready, it was time to de-board for our first land stop of the voyage. I hadn’t been to Key West since 1996 – at which time I saw virtually nothing, so there were several things on my checklist that I wanted to check out during the short duration that we would be here. The time that we had gained the day before by visiting the Jimmy Carter Library quickly disintegrated into late morning slumber on Thursday, September 16, 2010. The plans were going to be to hit the Carter Library early and then catch a tour of the Georgia State Capitol at 11am, but even without the library, we didn’t make it to the capitol building until 11:20am, missing the guided tour. This ended up being perfectly fine though, as we had virtually all access to roam my fourth and final State Capitol of the year.
When I first planned out the Disney World trip that I took with Erin and her kids in July, I had wanted to start out in Atlanta before moving on to Plains, Georgia. However, after we added an additional day at Disney and realized we could get started until late morning on our first Saturday, we nixed the visit to Atlanta. Then I had hoped to take my fifth and final vacation in Charleston where Erin lived, and take a side excursion up to Atlanta. But when we broke up, that fell through. But I didn’t let the Atlanta dream die…
