erin3…And she certainly wasn’t the first. Back in the mid-nineties, I used to hear it on a weekly basis it seemed. Having high public exposure when I worked at Kroger, customers galore would often tell me of my resemblance to Kiefer, some concerned that I might actually be a vampire as he was in The Lost Boys. But the first and only celebrity to date to tell me that I looked like Kiefer Sutherland was Erin Gray when I met her at the Hollywood Collectors Show in California during my Summer visit of 1997.

I knew Erin Gray best for her role as Kate Summer in the great 1980′s sitcom Silver Spoons starring Ricky Schroeder. And although I have never seen it, she is also noted for her role in the two-season sci-fi TV show Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. The only other film in which I have seen her – which came after our first meeting – was in Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday. And by the way, she was kind of hot.

So I got a kick out of it when she told me back in 1997 that I looked like Kiefer Sutherland. In fact, I asked her to go ahead and write that as the inscription on my signed photo (which in those days cost all of $5.00). Unfortunately, I didn’t get a picture with her at that time.

A dozen years later, I met up with her again at the Chiller Theatre show in Parsippany, New Jersey, on April 18, 2009. I came armed with my photo to prove to her that we had once met. She told me that I still look like Kiefer Sutherland and willingly posed for a photo. But after we were done, her handler asked for $5.00 anyway. Erin said that she was sorry that she didn’t make it clear, but that the money was going to charity.

Oh well. A signed photo. A picture with her. $10 total. Part of it to charity. What was I going to do? Turn into a vampire?
