Kimberly Adkins worked with me at the Kroger in Miamisburg in 2003. It hadn’t been long since I had taken over the drug and general merchandise department when she was hired. She had worked for Kroger before and I was instantly impressed by her knowledge and work ethic. Naturally as a manager (who was married), I ignored the fact that she was so darn pretty too! But I always did enjoy working with her. She was a good conversationalist and from what I recall, an eternal perfectionist…often frustrated when she saw that others had done a shoddy job.
She didn’t stay around too terribly long, maybe for a year, before she sought out greener pastures and other job opportunities. A few years later I somehow located her on MySpace and we exchanged a few notes back and forth, but never had the time or inclination to meet up.
But after a couple of years of infrequent communication, we began to chat a bit more online and eventually decided to meet up to see Coraline, a movie that I vehemently recommended. So on Tuesday, March 24, we finally met up at the Greene shopping center in Beavercreek.
We grabbed a couple of drinks at The Pub (and I must note that I had my first Strongbow Cider since Epcot ’07) and then decided to go check the movie times. Why neither of us hadn’t thought to do that before going there is beyond me, but it turned out that Coraline wasn’t even playing and any other movie that we would have wanted to see wasn’t starting until about an hour later. Not wanting to spend too late of night, we just decided to go get something to eat at the Cheesecake Factory.
After dinner, we headed back to our cars and I explained the necessity of taking a photo with her, that my web posting about her just wouldn’t work without it. No doubt thinking me the weirdo that I am, she finally gave in, having had refused any photos all evening. She’s not photogenic, she says. Yeah right.

Movie or not, I for one still had a great time hanging out with Kimberly, churning out some of the old work stories and what had been going on behind the scenes. And of course learning about what she had been up to with her other jobs, a move to Florida, college, and her upcoming position as a chaplain’s assistant for the U.S. Army. Unfortunately she’ll be leaving for Army basic training soon, so the clock is ticking if we’re going to catch that movie beforehand. I’ll make time if she does…
2009 will continue…
Continue to the next reunion…
That was a nice piece. I had no idea you thought so highly of me at Kroger. Well thanks for hanging out.. Also I can get on base to the Imax Theatre. So let me know. =)
