nightmI have to be honest. I didn’t do much research on Ronee Blakley before I met her at the  Chiller Theatre show in Parsippany, New Jersey on April 26, 2014. I had noted that she played in the original Nightmare on Elm Street film as Nancy’s mother Marge Thompson, and I stopped right there. That was good enough for me. Of course if I had looked into her career a little bit further, I might have noticed that she carried one other ultra-special credential that would have made meeting her mandatory.

Ronee Blakley had been nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in the 1975 film Nashville. Furthermore she had played a country-western singer named Barbara Jean in the film and had written a good portion of the songs that she performed. Huh.

I can’t honestly say that her career outside of these two films included anything that much interested me. Perhaps an appearance on The Love Boat or Highway to Heaven came closest to penetrating my world.

With the Oscar nomination nod, I’m curious now how she feels that she is perhaps better known in circles such as Chiller for the Nightmare connection. In any case, she’s making some money – like $25 for a signed photo from the film.

She was nice enough but did give me a little grief about posing for a picture with Carolyn as well, even though the photo op came free with the purchase (to be fair, if you made no purchase, there was a separate fee). But she did it anyway and that was good.

It was pretty cool to meet her, as it as all Nightmare cast members… and especially Oscar nominees.
