"Next week we'll learn why cows look forward to giving milk!" - Mr. Olson, "Police Squad!"

dd3One of my favorite go-to films when I want to laugh is Seems Like Old Times starring Chevy Chase, Goldie Hawn, and Charles Grodin. This trio is superb, but they are also swimming in a sea of scene-stealers in their supporting cast, chief among them was T.K. Carter who played the ‘recovering thief’ Chester, whom Goldie’s sympathetic character groomed into her chauffeur. T.K. gets all of my attention in every scene he is in, and that pretty goes for anytime he appears onscreen in any film.

Unfortunately T.K. didn’t have any photos from Seems Like Old Times when the exciting chance to meet him came up at the Days of the Dead show in Indianapolis on July 17, 2013. He was there as part of a reunion of the classic horror film The Thing, a pretty memorable film in its own right, but more exciting was the fact that it brought together three actors I like a lot: Richard Masur, Joel Polis, and T.K. Carter.

But I had been more familiar with T.K. Carter from his other appearances in such films and shows as Punky Brewster, Amazon Women on the Moon, Good Morning, Miss Bliss, Family Matters, and his take on Bill Cosby in BAADASSSSS!

He suggested that I pick up a photo form Doctor Detroit, which was another comedy from the early 1980’s. I hadn’t seen it at the time… but did later watch it, only to find again that I was enjoying T.K.’s performance more than anyone else’s in a pretty sorry film that wasted everyone’s talent.

Still the photo was nice, and it set him upon reminiscing about his career in the early 1980’s and how much fun he had working with so many top actors and comedians. He almost grew misty-eyed by the end of the conversation and actually thanked me for bringing back so many memories. It was a pretty perfect celebrity encounter with a great talent, and well worth the $20 for the autograph that included a picture with both me and Carolyn.

Keep your eye out for T.K. Carter and see if you don’t agree that he is the consummate scene-stealer.
