"After viewing the situation from all sides, Mr. Laurel says that he is thoroughly reconciled to the fact that the moving picture industry is still in its infancy." - Radio announcer, "Me and My Pal"

jh2What can I say? I have an affinity for child actors… especially if they worked back in the black and white days. Jimmy Hunt met both qualifications, so I greeted him at the Chiller Theatre Show in Parsippany, New Jersey, on October 27, 2012. I’m sure to some, the movie Invaders from Mars is classic 50’s science fiction at its finest…but I wouldn’t know because I’ve never seen it. But what I can tell you is that the Jimmy Hunt as young boy named David MacLean is the center of the story. That’s pretty darn cool.

Usually if I take a chance on getting the autograph of a child actor from this era, I’ll later find that he or she appeared in some great sitcom or anthology (I won’t mention any names because I wouldn’t want someone skimming this to think Jimmy was in any such production), but Jimmy really wasn’t. But he did star in the original Cheaper by the Dozen in 1950, and of utmost coolness he starred in movie I’ve always loved, Sorry, Wrong Number. If that doesn’t justify getting an autograph of him, then nothing does.

Still I opted for a photo from his most famous role in Invaders from Mars. It was a very reasonable $20 and that included a free photo with him. I haven’t seen him appear anywhere since, so this will be one that I’m quite glad that I got when I could.
