I first met Kim Cummings on Friday, January 29, 1988 and immediately took a liking to her. She was one of a group of very attractive ninth-graders from Ferguson Junior High whom I, along with a group of my new high school friends, had met up with that night at Skateworld. I was sure to note in my journal from that era that Kim was ‘a fox.’ I always liked hanging out with her even as our crushes on each other waxed an waned over time. She always had a huge smile and a bubbly personality that was sure to cheer up anyone when they were down. She lived in Pebble Creek, the same neighborhood that housed many of my friends including Mark, Scott, Rusty, Chris, and several others.
After I graduated and began to spend my summer with Christi and Ashleigh – and eventually gravitate to the college scene – I didn’t see much of Kim, or really much of anyone from our high school group, anymore. I had last seen her in 1993 at the Palace Club nightclub. She had changed considerably at that time, now sporting her hear in dreadlocks – but she still had that exuberant personality.
Earlier this year, I tracked Kim down – now Kimberly Rottmayer, she is happily married, a mother, and a hell of a photographer, mostly specializing in artistic photos of musical acts. When she’s not doing that, she even performs in her husband’s band eric Metronome. When Kim sent me some links to check out his music, I took an instant liking to him too. So it was an extra special treat to meet both Kim and Eric for lunch on Sunday, April 15 near their home in Clintonville, Ohio at the Northstar Cafe.

Kim and Eric
It was a great time meeting Eric and reminiscing with Kim about our wild and wooly high school days. She has become an extremely kind, composed, levelheaded, and attractive woman…whose smile still lights up the room. Eric is a bit quieter, but equally wise and serene. We chatted about where our lives had taken us and wondered how the group of us who hung out together could go in so many diverse directions. We talked about our children (she has a 12-year-old), our families, education, and the weather woes of Ohio. It was an hour that went by very quickly - and I’m looking forward to seeing them both again. In fact, their band will be playing in Dayton in May, so I want to be sure to catch up with them then.

It looks like old times seeing you guys…I miss you!

Thanks Brad for all your kind words! This photo cracks me up with the hair. It was awesome to be back in touch with you and to hear about your life. It’s so exciting to read about everyone and to see a current photo. I’m all about the reunion. I’m more than happy to help in any way i can getting that to happen. It would be great to see everyone again.
